Short Range Wireless Usage, Concerns, Directions and Debugging in the IoT Era
The world of embedded is changing. It is being impacted by one of the major growth markets of our time – the Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT demands innovative solutions to a new set of requirements, impacting upon the decisions, issues and preferences of engineers tasked with wireless embedded designs.
Is Free Bluetooth Really Free?
Let's get right to the point. If you pay nothing for software (like the Bluetooth that's already embedded in chips or RTOSs) but it costs you 50 percent more in development costs and perhaps significant time in opportunity costs associated with delayed time-to-market, is free Bluetooth really free?
The Role of Short Range Wireless in IoT
The Internet of Things (IoT) is changing the shape of the embedded systems industry. A key component of this change is the role that short range wireless - such as BLE, WiFi and Bluetooth - will play in new IoT scenarios. The focus of this paper will be on the many aspects of short range wireless connectivity for IoT applications. It will give managers greater understanding of the practicalities behind new scenarios involving short range wireless.
The Future of the Medical Device Industry
A significant growth in the medical device marketplace can be realized by expanding the market to individuals that can benefit from preventative support and ongoing monitoring of treatments. This will create a market for millions of new devices. Paper published with permission from Embedded Market Researchers.
Research and Development
Most companies appreciate that research & development (R&D) plays a crucial role in economic growth, and that for many companies, large and small, R&D is the key to profitability and success in new markets. This AusIndustry document discusses how R&D is a proven driver of innovation and discusses the role of Research Service Providers (RSPs). Clarinox is approved to provide wireless electronic research and product development services. AusIndustry RSP Number 2448.
Saving Time to Market
According to Nevens, M T, Summe, G L and Uttal B, Commercialising technology: What the best companies do "Companies that are first to market their products can command higher prices and enjoy a greater market share".
Need to Justify the Business Case?

Jannal Intelligent Design Environment
Developers are increasingly incorporating additional software such as wireless protocol stacks into their embedded products creating large, complex systems. Building and debugging such complicated systems consumes valuable resources and extends project timescales. The use of Jannal Intelligent Design Environment eases the challenges and allows engineers to focus on their end application.
Getting your Medical Devices to Market Faster
In this paper Embedded Market Forecasters acquaint medical device manufacturers with currently available technologies that are used effectively in other vertical marketplaces to speed up the development process, lower the cost of development and better enable integration of wireless, USB and very efficient GUI development and deployment.
Long-term value from short-range connectivity
In this age of smartphones, touch-screen tablets and imminently wearable computing, the ubiquitous radio communications device seems to be just as resilient to change as it is to the rigours of the environments in which it's used. Read the full Tait Connections Magazine article.

Developers Report on their Use of Wireless Protocols for Embedded Applications
Wireless protocols are deployed across a large number of markets. This paper takes a look at what wireless protocols developers are using for embedded applications and how they are using them.
Complexities of embedded systems
Increasing complexity has long been a major embedded systems developer concern. Some industries have seen this trend earlier than others but it appears none will escape the trend. It is just a matter of time until this is a concern across every market segment.
A flexible, plug-in based debugger is described. The debug system, built as a C++ interface class, is independent of the physical layer, which can be a network, a serial connection (e.g., RS232), or even a file on hard disk or flash memory. The plug-in approach presented was conceived to overcome the major barriers to fast and efficient debugging of embedded systems and is based upon many years of experience in the embedded industry.

Embedded Industry Issues
An overview of the issues in the embedded industry and the Clarinox approach to dealing with these. Real Time Location Systems
Real Time Location Systems are used to track and identify the location of objects or people in real time. This is done through the use of electronic tags/badges attached to the object or person and electronic readers to receive the signals from these tags. Signals are filtered and the information processed to determine location.
Hardware / Software Debugging
A rapid protoyping example is used to higlight an approach to debugging when the issue is not clearly either hardware or software.
Debugging Embedded Systems
For many years debugging has been the number one issue of embedded engineers according toEmbedded Systems Design's annual market survey.
Picking Wireless Technologies?
Think the number of choices for wireless technologies makes things confusing? Clarinox provides a (rough) guide to some main differences between technologies at Industrial and Wireless Conference.
Dealing with a Complex QNX Design?
Clarinox was announced as an approved QNX partner for Bluetooth protocol stack software at Embedded World, a sample development on QNX platform is discussed.
Working across Multiple Embedded Platforms
Traditionally the requirements placed upon embedded systems are quite different to those applied for desktop computing. While there is no single characterization that applies to the whole gamut of embedded systems some combination of the variables of robustness, small size and weight, real-time requirements, long life cycle and low price could be expected to figure in the design criteria for most embedded systems.
