Clarinox Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support for Texas Instrument WiLink™ 8Q and Green Hills Software's INTEGRITY® Real-Time Operating System

Clarinox Technologies, a leading provider of wireless protocol stack software, is pleased to announce support for Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi®, optimized for use with the Texas Instruments (TI) low-power, highly integrated WiLink™ 8Q platform. This complements Clarinox existing support of a number of TI solutions based on ARM® cores, as well as DSP and OMAP™ platforms.

The ClarinoxWiFi™ 802.11b/g/a/n Wi-Fi stack provides complete support for AP, Station, Wi-Fi Direct and WPS - integrated with TI's WiLink 8Q single-chip solution and Green Hills Software's safety and security certified INTEGRITY® Real-Time Operating System. Additionally, ClarinoxWiFi comes with a powerful, built-in 802.11 protocol analyzer, based upon Clarinox PC based debugger/analyzer.

The ClarinoxBlue™ Bluetooth host subsystem stack is qualified for Bluetooth versions 2.0, 2.1 and 3.0, and is currently going through the process of receiving V 4.1 qualification (including Bluetooth low energy). ClarinoxBlue covers a large number of industry standard Bluetooth profiles including those commonly used in automotive, health and consumer applications. The Bluetooth implementation supports many real time operating systems, including Green Hills INTEGRITY RTOS, and supports TI's WiLink 8Q solutions as well as previous WiLink 6 and 7Q generations. It comes bundled with the Clarinox protocol analyzer.

New generation of design environment software manages inherent low-level complexity of wireless developments and allows the engineer more time to focus on the end application

Clarinox Technologies, a leading provider of wireless protocol stack software, announces the release of JannalTM Intelligent Design Environment. Jannal software enables design engineers with little RF experience to rapidly plan, create, and test reliable Bluetooth® and Wi-FiTM embedded developments for a wide range of real time operating system (RTOS) and hardware combinations.

Wireless connectivity attracts consumers because it allows a product to take advantage of burgeoning Bluetooth- and Wi-Fi-wireless technology "ecosystems" - dramatically enhancing the device's usefulness. Named for the indigenous Australian word for "place of the Moon", Jannal Intelligent Design Environment is targeted at software engineers who want to enhance their product with wireless functionality and who are experienced in developing embedded applications but lack sufficient project time to fully investigate the low-level complexity inherent in wireless protocol stack software.

Choosing the right software components of the protocol stack, and subsequent testing and debugging, is challenging and time consuming. Consequently, time-to-market pressures often result in projects involving a wireless element being outsourced. However, with Jannal, any competent software engineer can quickly select and test the wireless connectivity component of their embedded software.

Jannal leads the engineer via an intuitive Eclipse-based graphical user interface (GUI) through the design phase tasks of plan, create and test, in order to add Bluetooth- (including v4.0 and v4.1 which include Bluetooth low energy) or Wi-Fi-wireless connectivity to their product.

The intelligent Design Environment enables an engineer to quickly converge on the optimum design for their application. After selecting the wireless protocol software stack, the designer can select from a range of RTOS and target microprocessors and see an estimate of the hardware cost and resource implications of the choices made. Without the flexibility of the Intelligent Design Environment, experimentation with such a wide range of variables would be impractical.

If an engineer chooses to use Jannal to incorporate existing Intellectual Property (IP) wireless protocol software elements and a standard sample application, they don't need to learn the details of the underlying architecture. Alternatively, if the engineer wishes to undertake a more ambitious approach and is prepared to develop a more detailed understanding of the protocol software and framework libraries, they can access the power of Clarinox's proven framework, ClarinoxSoftFrame to guide them in the building of more complex applications.

"Adding wireless connectivity to a product is a sure-fire way of significantly enhancing its functionality," comments Trish Messiter, Clarinox's CEO. "Unfortunately, implementing the technology is far from trivial. Even for a software engineer there's a huge learning curve to overcome to understand the wireless protocol stack, and to then construct, test and debug an application layer to utilise the many features within the RF technology in an optimal way that matches the specific requirements of the end product.

"But with Clarinox's new generation of software, Jannal Intelligent Design Environment, engineers with limited RF knowledge can plan, create, test, debug and then deploy embedded software to target wireless hardware without the need to learn the entire underlying system architecture," continues Messiter. "The software helps to manage the inherent complexity within the development process and relieves the developer from much of the distraction that takes the focus away from the end application."

But with SMART kapp, co-workers and clients can follow the process in real-time, where everything written on the capture board appears as if by magic on their digital devices. The work is simply saved with SMART’s advanced software and then as a final product as PDFs or JPEGs and then easily shared with anyone, anywhere, instantly.

For the project ClarinoxBlue is integrated on the WiLink™ 8 Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth combo connectivity solution with SYS-BIOS and TMS320C6748. Additionally, the Clarinox built-in Bluetooth protocol analyser provides enhanced visibility and faster debugging.

2014 was an exciting year.
